When I first met Tony and entered his temporary studio at the Rauschenberg Residency I could not believe my eyes. It was a sea of charcoal across every square inch of the floor. A challenging setting to photograph quickly turned into an opportunity for Tony to explain his work and settle into a head shot with the mid afternoon light coming in the bay door.
