Planning Around Pictures

Below are a few tips and tricks to getting the most out of your photography and videography coverage on your wedding day.

A general rule of thumb is to have at least one timeline review with your photographer before the day. This allows the photographer to ensure that there is enough time to capture everything and that the day flows smoothly at your venue.

1: Add vows during the first look or while getting ready.

There’s nothing sweeter than taking a few minutes to read vows or a letter each couple writes to the other. It can help settle nerves and bring the day back to just you two.

2: Find time to do wedding party photos before the ceremony.

The tuxes are still pressed, the flowers are fresh, and the makeup is still glistening. Too often do ceremonies create teary eyes, blow hair around in the wind, or scuff up the flowers. Those details help make the ceremony pictures that much more special. But, ideally we want to keep those things out of close-ups and group shots.

3: When you two are walking back down the isle, for the recessional, kiss when you reach the last row!

Whether it’s a guest with a cell phone out, the officiant with an odd look, or even the bouquet too high – there are several reasons why ‘the kiss’ may not turn out to be an ideal shot. Giving your photographer a second ‘kiss’ gives you another option to remember the special moment.

4: Right after the ceremony do a group shot with all your guests!

It is very difficult to capture everyone at your wedding – but this is one way to ensure you can.

5: Have cocktail hour go the full hour.

It is often during this time that family formals, reception details, and bride and groom pictures are taken. That’s a lot to capture – especially if the immediate family is a larger group.
